Participation for SSLS Escuela Students
With assistance from SSLS school, while studying in the SSLS Weekly Program.
The following is a general list
- participating groups and their offerings may vary during the year.
- Alcald�a de Leon – Various projects of social, environmental, sanitation, housing and educational development.
- Asociaci�n de Mujeres Discapacitadas – Teaches physical rehabilitative mobility and other useful skills to disabled people, and offers psychological services and employment training, and legal assistance (family violence and sexual abuse) to help these people raise their self-esteem and integrate themselves into social life.
- Asociaci�n de Pacientes de Salud Mental – Attends to people with mental health problems.
- Asociaci�n las T�as – Offers nutritional, education and psychological assistance for children and youths who live on the streets, especially with addiction problems.
- Centro de Capacitaci�n de la Mujer Obrera – A self-supporting organization that provides occupational training for women in sewing, beauty, typing and baking. Also works with a natural health clinic where women can be attended at low cost.
- Centro de Mujeres IXCHEN – Offers family planning, education, occupational and leadership training, and psychological services for low-income women who have been victims of domestic violence, rape, etc.
- Comit� de Mujeres Rurales – Education and training in preventative health and family planning for rural women.
Universities and technical schools – UNAN, UPOLI, UCA, etc. Volunteer work assisting in English classes and education in various specialties possible.
- Fundaci�n de la Mujer Ind�gena de Subtiava – Assistance for indigenous women in need teaching them various occupational skills such as sewing, beauty, etc. Also works with youth projects for reforestation, conservation, self-esteem seminars in cases of family violence, and participates in scores of preschools in the campo.
- Fundaci�n Hablemos de Nosotras – Teach and promote sexual education, human rights, and legal rights awareness for children of rural communities and within some colegios in Leon.
- Fundaci�n Leon 2000 – Supports small scale, commerce, service, and agricultural business development by offering low interest loans.
- Fundaci�n para el Desarrollo de Leon – Supports small business and community development by offering loans to needy sectors of the city.
- Instituto Polit�cnico La Salle – A technical high school teaching mechanics, agriculture, electrical, welding, etc., with volunteer opportunities to assist in English classes and in various subjects according to expertise and language ability of the volunteer.
- Fundaci�n Xochilt Acalt – Attends to women and children in the indigenous pueblo of Subtiava, working to eradicate child labor. Attend to over 60 preschools in the campo. Offer medical attention, family planning services, occupational skills training in sewing, carpentry, etc.
- Habitat para la Humanidad – The international organization that works with the community to build affordable housing projects within economic parameters wherein the people provide the labor.
- Movimiento de Mujeres Mar�a Elena Cuadra – A center offering sexual education, community development, legal and psychological aid for women and children, especially in domestic abuse situations.
- Proyecto Ni�os del Fort�n – Intervention project for children and their families who survive by commercializing garbage from the city dump. Provides them with food, medical care, and educational support, as well as family planning and reproductive health.

The following list is of NGO�s more difficult to participate in due to their requirement of higher language ability and/or a multi-month commitment, or other requirements. However, the Leonesa school can work with you to set up a visitation and/or interview, if possible.
- Asociaci�n Mary Barreda – Supports disadvantaged women, especially prostitutes, with preventative medicine.
- Asociaci�n de Salud Mental (ASMEN) – Mental health center.
- Centro de Salud Perla Maria Nororis – Health services including vaccination, education, pre-natal care, first aid, etc.
- Colectivo de Mujeres "Pro-Mujer" – Women's cooperative that offers health and education services including English classes, for their members.
- Comisi�n Coordinadora de Atenci�n a la Ni�ez (CCAN) – Promotes health, education, and recreation programs for children and youths.
- Comit� Evang�lico Pro-Ayuda al Desarrollo (CEPAD) – Evangelical committee dedicated to supporting economic development in rural communities via finance projects and training.
- Escuela Especializada Hamburgo – Specializes in atending to children with physical and mental disabilities.
- Escuela Integral de la Cultura – Community center for the development and practice of the plastic arts, theatre, dance, music, artesan�a, languages, and other cultural activities. Volunteer work available.
- Los Pipitos – A center that specializes in assisting children and the families of children with Downs Syndrome.
- MILAVF – A European program staffed mostly by Nicaraguans that provides education, and multidisciplinary intervention for children and youths with social and family problems.
- Movimiento Comunal – Works with men and women in education and training relating to labor and consumer rights, preventative and public health.
- Ni�os Discapacitados – Work with disabled youths and their families.
- Programa de Desarrollo Local (PRODE) – Promotes community infrastructure, housing and small business financial assistance.
